Nolan Announces Long Island MacArthur Airport Launches 1630 AM Radio
Bodkin Says Third in Series of Communication Initiatives: WiFi, Web, Radio
Radio Lets Customers Track Flights New Frequency Audible from within Half Mile of Terminal
July 21, 2020 - Long Island MacArthur Airport (LIMA) has launched its own radio frequency - 1630AM, Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan announced today. On this frequency, audible within a half mile of the airport, travelers can track flight status and get other updates. The frequency is the latest in a series of customer amenities that include a new Web site, free courtesy parking area for cell phone users and free WiFi throughout the terminal, which is scheduled to launch by year-end.
Supervisor Nolan stated, “Coupled with our new Web site, www.flylima.com, this radio frequency provides multiple ways for travelers to get the information they need to plan their trip or pick up passengers from Long Island MacArthur Airport. “
Commissioner of Aviation Teresa Rizzuto said, “At Long Island MacArthur Airport, we want to make flying as easy as possible for our customers. Providing them with one more way to track arrivals and departures makes travel even easier.”
According to Councilman Chris Bodkin, the radio frequency provides a live feed from LIMA’s in-house flight information system that also allows transmission of emergency alerts and other airport information. LIMA teamed up with Alpine Systems Incorporated to build on the existing flight information system that already provides a live feed for www.flylima.com and display boards located within the terminal. LIMA’s new Web site also provides additional FAA information on arrivals and departures, links to ancillary services and information about the general aviation services offered at the airport.
