Help Give Returning Soldiers a Hometown Hero’s Welcome

Every soldier returning from deployment in Afghanistan and Iraq deserves a heartfelt welcome home.  That’s why the Town of Islip created the “Hometown Hero” Welcome Program at Long Island MacArthur Airport, which is owned and operated by the Town.   According to Islip Town Councilman Gene Parrington, a decorated Vietnam-era Marine and the Town Board’s liaison to the airport, “Long Island MacArthur Airport is the gateway to the Island.  We are proud to help welcome home our returning veterans who have served their county abroad.” Since March 2009, the Town has coordinated “Welcome Home” festivities at MacArthur Airport for more than 75 combat veterans and active duty military who hail from all across Long Island.  If you know of a returning veteran or active duty military who would benefit from a “Hometown Hero’s Welcome”, contact Councilman Parrington’s office at (631) 589 - 0234.
