Thousands of Airline Passengers Will Start Holidays to Sounds of the Season
Fourth Annual Winter Holiday Concert Series at Long Island MacArthur Airport

Sponsored by Courtyard at Marriott, Ronkonkoma
Choral Groups, Carolers & Chamber Orchestras from Six Public Schools to Perform

Ronkonkoma, NY (December 9, 2020) - Thousands of airline passengers who will arrive at Long Island MacArthur Airport to start their holidays will be invited to put down their bags, drop their carryon’s and join in song as some two hundred students from a half dozen school choral groups and chamber orchestras fill the airline terminal with the sounds of the season.

The musical series kicks off on Monday, December 19 and runs through Friday, December 23, one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.  This year’s series is sponsored by the MacArthur Airport Courtyard by Marriott located in Ronkonkoma less than ten minutes from the airport.

Commissioner of Aviation Teresa Rizzuto explained, “Let’s face it. Holiday traveling can be a bear.  But nothing reminds you why you are flying from there to here faster than the soaring music of the holidays.  Asking our deplaning passengers and waiting families to join in the music reminds everyone that the travel was worth it.”

The concert series will show case student musicians from area elementary, middle school and high schools. Local professional musicians drawn from jazz, classical and barbershop traditions will also perform during the five-day series. (See detailed schedule below.)

“Our holiday concert series is always a big hit.  Thanks to our sponsor, Courtyard by Marriott, this year’s series features more student talent than ever before, including the only elementary school chorus invited to perform at Radio City Music Hall,” said Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan.

According to Marriott owner Lee Browning, “Traveling during the holidays can be very stressful. What could be more delightful than stepping off a plane after a long flight to be greeted by the sound of children singing carols? We were delighted to partner with Long Island MacArthur Airport to bring this kind of hospitality to our customers.”

The line-up of school and professional talent is impressive and includes award winning school programs, as well as prominent professionals.
